Fan Expo 2008
I haven't been around much the past few days but I've had good reason. I spent the weekend with my buddy Ryan at Fan Expo 2008 in Toronto. I'd never been to a convention before, so this was my first one ever, but it was really a lot of fun. It was so nice to be amidst a group of people who weren't giving me "wow...really?" looks when I was gabbing on about anime shows, or Star Trek characters. It was so liberating. Ryan was great too because even though he's not really an anime person he was still willing to check stuff out with me.
I didn't get a chance to spend much time going to talks or what not since I was too busy shopping. I picked up some BEAUTIFUL art, a fan art picture someone did of Kakashi in his anbu gear and a precious Domo-kun doll. On Friday I took some time to line up in style and get an autograph from Richard Ian Cox, the voice of Inuyasha in the English dub. Ended up posing for a pic with me, Domo-kun, Richard Cox and Vic M-? He does the voice of Eric? Elric on FMA and Kurz Webber on FMP! I knew he was someone in FMA cause of all the cosplayers dressed up who literally screamed for him when he arrived. So when I got home I looked him up and realized he did the voice of Kurz so that's cool by me. Richard Cox was very nice as well - quite a fun gentleman.
Sat I forced Ryan to get up early and went to the Bleach showing (shame they had to show so much Ishida ewww). After a bit of shopping I decided to start being a paparazzi and taking pictures of cosplayers. It was actually really fun! There was this ADORABLE little girl (2 years old) who'd dressed up as Yoda. She had a light saber and everything. Not a single person walked by her without smiling and/or taking a picture. Too cute. I also followed around this guy in awesome Kakashi cosplay until I snagged a picture of him muahahaha. Okay ,so he was probably 15 but whatever... I got my Mrs. Robinson fix.
In the end of the day it was a very awesome fun time and I look forward to going to the next convention. I'm just sad I have no other anime/star trek/comic book nerdy friends to go with since Ryan heads back to Montreal tomorrow. *sigh*
And how was your weekend?
